Oh ok.
So I'm back. Sort of. The huge wave of optimism I had right after the New Year crested about mid-January and is basically gone. I'm wiped. Things have tanked pretty early. I'm still hoping to turn it around. How could it be so bad for the rest of the entire year? But that explains why I haven't been blogging. I'm tired, it's still freaking cold and snowy, my job is just soul-sucking right now, and my knitting mojo is in a giant funk too.
Oh, and my cat's dying. She's got malignant lymphoma in her nasal cavity, which apparently, after many, many fruitless trips to the vet, we've finally learned is probably in her lungs now too. Sweet Totie gets antibiotics twice a day for her upper respiratory infection, various homeopathic remedies throughout the day, and the prednisone once a day for shrinking the tumor. She has trouble breathing, but other than that, she's doing ok. That makes it hard to figure out when it will be time to let her go. Also, it means I can't take a vacation anywhere, since we can't leave her. We have to give her the meds and spend time with her while we can. So I'm going to take some time off in a week and a half and just chill around town.
Finally, here's FO #1 & #2, both from my small stash (only have one other color) of Koigu. These were finished a while ago, but I'm so disgusted by both of them that I don't want to talk about them much. Boo. I guess they can't all be winners.
This is the best angle on this hat. Seriously. You can almost believe that it fits. Almost!
Whoops! The hat is just a teeny bit too small.
Pattern: the purl beret Ok, people. Yes, mine looks about like the picture, and the colorway of Koigu that I used KPPPM 530 is still sooooo pretty. I love the colors so much. And I wanted to wear the hat. BUT. Yet. The hat is very loose. The wind here is very fierce. I doubt I'll get much use out of this until the spring, and even then, I may have to pin it. Spanky thinks I look like I'm wearing a child's hat. I may have to give the beret to my niece. Sigh. Also, it took one whole ball of Koigu, plus the leftover ball I had from the other skein of the same color I had to make this:
Pattern: Friday scarf
Needle: size 3 US straight needles
Notes: I loved knitting this scarf. It was fun! The little bobbles were awesome and the colors coming out of the skein and striping were just so entertaining and pretty! However, I don't like the way it looks. I feel stupid wearing it. If you click on the link for the pattern, you can see the designer's nieces modeling the scarves, and they look so cute! I don't know what exactly is so weird about this. I think the length is a bit weird. It should either be longer, or shorter... Instead, it lies between my breasts and looks stupid and limp rather than jaunty and cocked. Gah. I like it better like this:
It doesn't stay that way though. I'd need a pin, which I might just do. Otherwise, I'll probably never wear it. Maybe. Who knows? If I put it away for a while, I might bring it out later and like it more.
Oh, and there's more! I finished Veil. I know, you probably fell out of your chair. Get this! It didn't turn out the way I thought it would! Seduce is the suckiest yarn I've ever used, even worse than most of the shitty acrylic on which I started learning to knit. But more on that next time. It still looks good, and I bet I can even pose like the picture. But it's not comfortable! OMG.
